Reflections of a Life Well Served
“When you speak of her, speak not with tears,
For thoughts of her should not be sad,
Let memories of the times you shared give you comfort,
For her life was rich because of you.”
Louise Davis May Boone, a woman of immense love and dedication, will
be fondly remembered as a beloved wife, a doting and devoted mother
and grandmother, an excellent and committed educator, a believer in
“doing what is right,” a supportive family member and friend, and a
God-fearing Christian.
Louise Davis May Boone was born in Spring Creek, Tennessee, on April
19, 1940, to Raymond Davis (Pierce) May and Lottie Bolton May. She
was the “baby” of eight. Her parents preceded her in death, along with
four sisters, Mattie Ann, Mary Lydia, Essie Mae, and Christine, and
three brothers, Wilco, Ollie Moore, and James.
Louise matriculated within the Jackson-Madison County School System
at Merry High School and Denmark West High School, Class of 1957,
where she excelled as a student who exercised a passion for reading,
loved the prolific and eloquent use of words, and loved reciting poetry.
After high school, she attended and graduated from Lane College in
Jackson, Tennessee, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
Louise was united in holy matrimony to Clarence Donald Boone on June
3, 1962. Being a loving and dedicated wife to Clarence and mother to
their children Terrance Aleta and Torrance Antonio (who preceded her
in death) provided her with the greatest joy.
Louise, an exemplary educator, dedicated thirty-seven years of her life
to teaching English in schools within the Jackson-Madison County
School System: East High School, Southside High School, North Side
Junior High, and Jackson-Central Merry High School. She also served
as an adjunct professor at Jackson State Community College. Her
classroom was a safe space not just for learning English but also for
learning and understanding life. Her passion for grammar, writing, and
etiquette was infectious, and she never missed an opportunity to
'assist' family, and sometimes others, with their corrections. (Smile.)
Education and Service were always of superior importance to Louise.
She was a Golden Life Member of the Jackson, TN Alumnae Chapter of
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, where she served as
chapter president from 1976 -1977, worked closely with, often
conducting, the charm clinics of the Miss Bronze West Tennessee
pageant for many years, and willingly and tirelessly served wherever
needed. Louise was a faithful and steadfast member of Salem C. M. E.
Church, which she regarded as “The Center of Universe.” She served in
many capacities, including Stewardess, Sunday school teacher, vacation
Bible school, Board of Christian Education Director, announcement
clerk, recording secretary, and choir member.
Those who will be profoundly deprived of her love, strength, and
guidance include her loving, dedicated, caring soul mate husband of
sixty-one and a half years, Clarence; a devoted daughter Terrance
(Michael) Morris; a daughter-in-love Sharmaine Boone; the apples of
Grandmother’s eye, five grandchildren: Nicolas (D’aundra) Beard, Tiara
Beard, Torran Boone, Mekhi Morris, and Shara Boone; two precious
great-grandchildren: Naomi Beard and Hollis Beard; one brother-in-law,
James Willie Boone; one sister-in-law, Lyndell Shirlene (Gerald)
Norton, and a beautiful myriad of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
