Mary Helen Curry

On August 28, 2024, Mary Helen took her last breath and went home to be with the good lord. Mary Helen Curry was born the daughter of Mundy Warren Brooks and Etherine Austin Brooks. Mary attended elementary school in the basement of Mother Liberty C.M.E Church, then she later attended Merry High school for a year then she eventually moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan to help her sister Ada Mae Garmon and Brother-in law Rev. Moses Garmon with their 7 children all while attending Ottawa Hills High School until her senior year. Mary's nieces and nephews are as follows Linda (George) Stapleton of Gulfport, MS, Billly (Marla) Garmon of Michigan, Arthur (Vicki) Garmon of Jackson, Michigan, Bruce (Carla) Garmon of Tampa, FL, Gwen Garmon of Michigan, Cynthia Garmon of Tampa, FL, Karen Peacock of Dayton, OH.

 During the stint of Mary's life, she was a cosmetologist, model, caregiver, housekeeper for employees of the local banks here in Jackson, TN, and last but not least a nurse. Mary received her degrees and certificates from West Tn Business College. Mary became the first parent in the state of Tn to get certified and paid to take care of her disabled daughter Vanessa Curry. As a young child Mary suffered from leukemia at age 10, but by prayer and the grace of God she was healed, at age 14 she suffered from rheumatoid arthritis, but that never stopped her from being a great mother to her children as an adult in 1972 she birthed Jeanette Curry (Deceased) in 2021 and in 1978 she birthed Vanessa Curry (Living). Mary was a strong woman of faith and endurance. 

She leaves behind to cherish her memory and legacy Jessica Hopson (granddaughter), Antwan Tomlinson (great grandson) Vanessa Curry (Daughter), Sammy Mays (cousin along with his 6 children, Yolanda Rutherford (cousin) and her 3 daughters, Stepson Rev. David Curry and one special son in law Jesse Hopson. along with a host of other nieces and nephews one special niece Lolita Poplar, her father Rev. Richard Warren Brooks Sr. who preceded Mary in death the year 2001. Michael Brooks (special cousin) and last but not least special friend Mrs. Solonia Beatrice Knox.
